ISLAMABAD: Gullu Butt, who gained notoriety after being caught on camera vandalising private vehicles during an “anti-encroachment operation” outside the Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Lahore’s Model Town area, on Wednesday pulled another publicity stunt when he shook hands with PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and also gave him a quick hug as the latter arrived at the Supreme Court for the hearing of the Model Town killings case.

Images and videos of Gullu Butt went viral on the social media in which he could be seen vandalising vehicles during a clash between PAT activists and police outside the Minhaj secretariat in 2014.

Qadri’s security detail pulled Butt away as soon as he shook the PAT chief’s hand and hugged him.

Butt was sentenced to prison over the incident and released in 2017.

The Supreme Court wrapped up the Model Town case on Wednesday and directed the Punjab government to constitute a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

The directive was made as a larger bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar resumed hearing of a suo motu case over the matter.
