QUETTA: Pushtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai has said that the present government is unconstitutional and its affairs were being run by undemocratic elements.

Addressing a public rally to commemorate the 45th death anniversary of Khan Shaheed Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai at Sadiq Shaheed Park here on Sunday, he demanded a separate Pushtun province and the formation of a grand jirga of Pushtoons so that their rights could be obtained.

He suggested that the jirga should comprise of Asfand Yar Wali Khan, Moulana Fazalur Rehman, Sirajul Haq and Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao so that a joint struggle for the rights of oppressed Pashtoons may be initiated.

He said that Pashtuns want their true identity and sole authority over the natural resources of their region in Pakistan therefore, new provinces be formed on ethnic and cultural grounds and accordingly a united Pushtun province be formed with the name of Pushtunistan or Pushtunkhwa.

“Pakistan is a federation and we consider Pakistan as our country but it can only become a truly democratic state when people are given authority on their natural resources,” he said.

He also said that every child should be given the right to seek education in his own mother tongue.

The PkMAP chairman said that a free and independent Afghanistan was in the interest of both Pakistan and Afghanistan and both Pakistan and Afghanistan will have to respect each other to bring peace and normalcy in the region.

Achakzai reminded people that Khan Shaheed Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai had played a significant role in the liberation of the subcontinent by fighting not against English imperialism and the dictators of Pakistan for which he remained behind bars for many years.

Senator Usman Khan Kakar, Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai, Abdul Raheem Ziaratwal, Obaidullah Babat, Sardar Mustafa Khan Tareen, ex-senator Rauf Lala and PMAP Central Information Secretary Raza Muhammad Raza also spoke on the occasion.
