The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to shift 15 million voters registered in localities other than the addresses mentioned on their national identity cards (NICs) to their permanent addresses.

However, that policy will be effective if the voters fail to decide where they want to be registered after the December 31 deadline.

Talking to a private media outlet, an ECP official said that the election regulatory authority has no option even though his action may lead to a litigation.

A messaging campaign may also be introduced to educate voters regarding this change. After December 31, district election commissioners (DECs) will send notices to such voters registered in their area.
