ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday directed the district election commissioner of Lahore to deliver a second notice to Khadim Hussain Rizvi, the chief of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in a case regarding his party’s registration and financial sources.

A five-member commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza, heard the case earlier in the day, in the absence of Rizvi as he is under “protective custody” since last week.

However, Rizvi’s counsel did not appear either.

It was when the ECP issued another notice to the “missing” TLP chief and instructed the district EC to ensure that the court orders are obliged to.

The case was adjourned till December 5.

The case against TLP started after the Supreme Court (SC) slammed the ECP for registering a party that obstructed life in twin cities last year.

The top court was surprised to learn that the right-wing party had been registered with a National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) by a UAE-based Pakistani.

SC was also amazed that the ECP director general of law could not confirm the nationality of the person who applied for the registration of TLP as a political party.

ECP admitted allowing TLP to contest the 2018 general elections but the party failed to disclose its financial sources.
