OUP hosts discussion on Pakistan’s economic issues

ISLAMABAD: Oxford University Press (OUP) Pakistan on Tuesday hosted a discussion on the topic ‘Current Economic Challenges and the Need for Strengthening Social Protection: Where Does Pakistan Stand?’

The event held at the Oxford bookshop in Shalimar Plaza featured a stimulating conversation between the panellists former provincial finance minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, former federal secretary and National University of Science and Technology’s (NUST) Principal (SSSH) Ashfaq Hassan Khan and Board of Investment Executive Director General M Saleem Ahmad Ranjha. The discussion was moderated by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) Joint Executive Director Vaqar Ahmed.

The panellists discussed the massive immediate problems posed by Pakistan’s current political and economic scenario. They analysed these issues and proposed remedial measures for the new government to tackle the economic challenges of a large fiscal deficit and import bill, the slow economic growth, and the increasing unemployment and poverty rate in the country.

Earlier in his address, OUP Pakistan Sales Director Fayyaz Raja welcomed the guests and introduced the speakers.
