Despite expectations of being a blockbuster, Aamir Khan’s latest venture Thugs of Hindostan failed miserably at the box-office. The film, which had a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Sheikh, was a commercial and critic failure.

However, Aamir took full responsibility for the film’s dismal performance and apologised to his viewers for not being able to entertain them, Indian publication Mid-day reported. He shared that that he has tried to reflect on what went wrong with the Diwali release.

Aamir, while speaking at an event said, “We tried our level best and didn’t leave any stone unturned, but somewhere we went wrong. There are some who liked the film, but they are in minority. Majority of the audience didn’t like it. I take full responsibility for its failure.”

The superstar also revealed that the weight of having disappointed his fans put a burden on his conscience.

“I would like to apologise to the audience who went to watch my film with a lot of expectations. I want to apologise that we could not entertain them. I am trying to cope [with the failure],” he said, adding, “Having said that, I don’t like to discuss my films in public because I treat them as my babies. Even if they fail, they are mine.”

As per reports, the film caused huge losses to the producers and exhibitors, considering the extensive budget of the film. Thugs of Hindostan is expected to release in China soon and producers are hopeful that they are able to recover some of their costs. Khan’s previous releases Dangal and Secret Superstar performed phenomenally in China.

Previously, Shah Rukh Khan came out to support his fellow actor commenting that people were “too harsh” in judging the film. However, Khan reiterated that for an artiste, the audience’s verdict is the final word and that the filmmakers need to respect their views.
