ISLAMABAD: Tajikistan’s ambassador to Pakistan Sherali Jononov on Sunday said that Tajikistan is willing to resume direct flight operations with Pakistan in order to exploit tourism potential between the two countries.

“Resumption of flights of less than an hours duration can help the two geographically close countries to strengthen their people-to-people relations,” Ambassador Jononov told APP at an event held at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The Tajik ambassador said that Tajik Air had approached Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for the resumption of flight operations, to which a response was awaited by his country.

He mentioned that earlier that Tajikistan had launched twice a week direct flights of Somon Air between Dushanbe and Lahore in 2016 and it was regretful that the operation was suspended.

The ambassador said that besides the promotion of tourism, the direct air link between Pakistan and Tajikistan would also help enhance the bilateral economic relations.
