ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday imposed a ban on admissions in private medical colleges located in Abbottabad.
The case was heard by a two-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Azmat Saeed.
The court has imposed the ban on admissions into private medical colleges in Abbottabad as they do not come up to the set standards of education set by concerned authorities.
Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that the value of degrees from Pakistani medical colleges is nothing more than a piece of paper in other countries as it seems that doctors here are produced to kill people.
Counsel for Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Barrister Saif took the plea that PMDC had imposed a ban on admission into medical colleges at Abbottabad and frontier because they did not fulfil the set standard.
Counsel for Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Barrister Saif informed the court that although PMDC had imposed the ban on private medical colleges for their low standard of education, these colleges had decided to challenge the PMDC’s order in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) instead of improving themselves.
Furthermore, the PHC had ordered to lift the ban on admissions in these colleges.
“Everybody knows the situation of education in medical colleges in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is the worst. There will be no admission in private medical colleges from today,” Justice Saeed remarked in response.
Justice Sajjad Ali Shah quipped in saying, “Medical colleges should have 250-bed hospitals but they do not have anything of the sort”.
