Lawyers in Sahiwal, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Gujranwala continued protesting on the seventh consecutive day, seeking the establishment of high court benches in their respective districts, a private media outlet reported Tuesday.
They are asking for circuit benches to ensure speedy and cheaper justice for the people of their regions.
Infuriated lawyers in Sahiwal, while demanding a regional bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), torched tyres and staged a sit-in. They also blocked roads for traffic.
In Sargodha, protesting lawyers chanted slogans in support of their demands and locked the registry centre as well as the offices of the city’s commissioner and deputy commissioner.
Enraged lawyers in Gujranwala locked the election tribunal court in the division.
They also boycotted proceedings and closed the gates of courts to stop petitioners from entering.
It is worth mentioning here that last week, the agitated lawyers stormed a Faisalabad court and started damaging property, creating a ruckus. The lawyers damaged chairs and a police mobile in the court premises, claiming that formation of benches was their basic right.
They also stormed into the office of Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar and when they found out that he was not present, trouped to the committee room where Dogar was chairing a session, creating disturbances and disrupting the proceedings.
