A worrying trend

Recently, a few people died (including Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti’s grandson, Talay Bugti) and several got injured when firing took place in a dance party in DHA, Karachi. These types of private dance parties are booming in Karachi and most of these parties are held in DHA. Some of these parties carry hard drinks and drugs and many other controversial things.

It is amazing that the firing took place with impunity in one of the most posh area of the city. The weapons were used openly in flagrant disregard for the law. When law enforcement agencies cannot maintain law and order in posh areas, how can they maintain law and order in more sensitive areas? The police has also failed to apprehend the culprits in time.

Few years back, these parties were very few in numbers but the trend has been on the rise for quite a while now. It will be better if DHA and all other authorities don’t give permission for these parties as they are unregulated and may lead to many untoward incidents. The party in defence should serve as an eye opener about the lack of regulation of these activities.

The fact that they take place under the radar makes them much more dangerous. The requisite authorities should take note.
