LAHORE: The City School, A Level Campus, Model Town, held its 4th annual play at the Alhamra Arts and Cultural Complex, Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore on December 2-3. The theatrical comedy “For My Bride Only”, a write up by John J Wooten was described by the audience as hysterical and flabbergasting. The performance by young A Level students was appreciated by the crowd. Actors with their comedic timing and a crisp pace kept the audience intact for two hours.
Ansub Nadeem as Lou, Usama Iqbal as Stan, Syeda Tehniat as Katie, Khadijah Ahmad as Alice, Mahnoor Fatima as Luby, Saad Sheikh as Mitch, Akbar Lashari as Dolly, Ali Faizan as Detective, Kalsoom Arshad as Sarah and Subhan Khalid as Michael were among the cast.
City School Principal Tabinda Aitzaz said, “In these trying times, City School students have managed to keep their spirits high and gave a wonderful performance” She added, “To understand pun and the underlying meaning of the comic situation, one needed to be mentally alert.” Parents looked glad watching their children perform live and tickle the audience with fine slapstick comedy.
The audience enjoyed each and every bit of it especially when a male character came suddenly with in a bride’s dress. Producer of the play, Zara Khalid said, “This year it was again a challenge as we had to deliver better than last year.
From sets to costumes the play demanded great effort in order to cope up to a higher level of production.” Director of the play, Salman Hafeez said, “We were given a short span to put up a full length energetic comedy. It was another overwhelming challenge.” He said training amateurs required a certain ‘gestation’ time period but the time constraint meant that he had to go for an all out crash course. This was the fourth consecutive annual play that Student’s Blog (S Blog) produced for The City School’s A-Level Campus.
“For my Bride Only” forms S Blog’s seventh theatrical production, following “8 women”, “An Ideal Husband”, “My Best Friend’s Affair”, “Into the Woods”, “Legend of the Musketeers” and “Murder Me Tonight”.
