The Punjab government on Friday requested the Lahore High Court (LHC) to give time to file reply on a petition filed by former member of the provincial assembly (MPA) Shumaila Rana for restoration of her seat in the Punjab Assembly (PA).
Justice Umar Ata Bandial, accepting the request by the law officer of the Punjab government, adjourned the case’s hearing until August 16. On the previous hearing, the court had issued notices to the Punjab government and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on their failure to file reply on the petition alleging that PML-N leaders and the Punjab government forced her to resign from her seat.
The court had issued notices to PML-N Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khawaja Saad Rafique, Senior Advisor to the Punjab CM, Zulifqar Khosa, Pervaiz Rashid and other respondents. The former MPA said that a trial court acquitted her of all charges on March 1, 2010. Punjab CM’s Secretary Muhammad Ajmal, Punjab Additional Law Secretary Naseem Sadiq and PA Speaker Rana Iqbal are also parties in the case.
