ISLAMABAD: An expatriate woman on Saturday moved the Supreme Court (SC) against incumbent Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Raja Basharat for allegedly failing to deliver the possession of a land in Bani Gala after signing an agreement to sell it some 20 years ago.
Filing an application in the name of Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Sajida Mohsin Baqai claimed that Basharat had committed a breach of trust and fraud as he failed to transfer the title and possession of the sold land to her in the capital’s posh area.
Giving details, Baqai informed that Basharat had offered her to sell the 20 kanal land of various Khasras as sole owner in the Mohra Noor village. She said that Basharat entered into an agreement to sell the land after receiving Rs1.8 million two decades ago but failed to transfer of title and possession of the land.
Baqai further said that after the death of her husband, she settled in the United States (US) whereas Basharat breached the promise despite pledging several times to honour the commitment.
Basharat reneged on the deal at which the lady filed a suit for performance and the civil judge awarded decree in her favour, adding that she also lodged an FIR against Basharat after knowing the fact that he had committed fraud.
“I am baffled by a large number of provisions in our laws which deny justice to an expatriate widow like me. Now that Raja Muhammad Basharat has become law minister of the largest province of the country, my chance of getting justice has diminished further,” she said.
The applicant said she was suffering from huge financial and psychological losses as she was an old lady. While praying to the chief justice, she wrote, “Your Lordship, kindly help me in securing my land from Raja Muhammad Basharat or alternatively to recover my money with profit under the law.”
