ISLAMABAD: Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Thursday said that all judges who handed sentences on false testimonies would be held accountable.
“False witnesses will soon be behind bars and the entire system will be back on the right track as soon as a couple of perjurers are sentenced to life in prison,” he said while hinting at reforms in the criminal justice system.
If a judge cannot serve justice in criminal cases, he or she has no right to possess that authority, Justice Khosa said and added that lower judiciary in Punjab sentenced almost every accused to death.
“Back in 1985, an English judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) said that no dying person tells a lie anywhere in the world except in Punjab, where he or she does so and leaves a couple others struggling.”
Justice Khosa maintained that if judges of lower courts were unable to serve justice, the [lower] courts should be closed for once and for all.
