Pak-Iran relations imperative for regional peace, prosperity: Asad Qaiser

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Wednesday said that close friendly relations between Pakistan and Iran were imperative for regional peace, security and prosperity.

Speaking during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost, who called on him at the Parliament House, the speaker said that Pakistan values its brotherly relations with Iran and the incumbent government desired to further strengthen relations between the two neighbouring countries.

He stressed the need for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Iran in the areas of trade, investment and energy for mutual benefits and added that both the countries have to work together to resolve the problems being faced by the Muslims across the world.

“Both the countries need consensus on matters of international importance,” Asad said, adding that practical steps were needed to bring the people of both the countries closer.

Mehdi Honardoost, at the occasion, said that Iran gives great importance to its relations with Pakistan and considers it as a partner for peace in the region. He said the Iranian leadership and government are keen to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

The Iranian ambassador welcomed the speaker’s proposal for the diversification of trade and economic relations and said that historic friendly relations were shared by the two nations.

“Both the countries always stood with each other in difficult times,” he said.

The ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting unity among Muslim countries and also stressed the need for collaboration between Pakistan and Iran to promote sustainable patterns of governance.

He also invited Asad to attend the 2nd Speakers Conference in Tehran from December 7 to 8.
