ISLAMABAD: Task Force on Housing Chairman Zaigham Rizvi has reiterated government’s commitment to construct five million houses in the country in five years.
Addressing a press conference along with other PTI leaders, Mehmoodur Rasheed and Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Zaigham Rizvi said that they are working on an institutional framework at a fast pace.
He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is taking a keen interest in the project as he has chaired 10 meetings on the subject during the last 60 days. He said that not only in urban centres, but houses will also be constructed in rural areas.
Firdous Shamim Naqvi said that the government has prepared a comprehensive strategy for accomplishing the goal. He said that one million houses will be constructed every year. He said that the government will provide the people with their own shelter, thus helping them get rid of rent.
Speaking on the occasion, Mehmoodur Rasheed said that in the first phase in Punjab, the project will be implemented in Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lodhran, Chiniot, Bahawalnagar and Jhelum districts as well as Muzaffarabad in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
He said that land is available for the project and private developers are taking interest in it. Mehmoodur Rasheed said that the financial model of the projects is being prepared these days.
