Pakistan on Thursday recommended Afghanistan establish a single point of contact with all Afghan National Security Forces through a hotline between Pakistan Army and Afghan National Army to avert tensions emanating from incursions along the Pak-Afghan border.
Pakistan also proposed frequent border flag meetings between local commanders and interaction and jirgas between Maliks of villages lying on either side of the border to ensure the sanctity of international border.Pakistan made these proposals when a joint team of Pakistani, Afghan and US military members met in Peshawar to discuss the recent spike in tension emanating from incursions along the Pak-Afghan border, an ISPR press release said.
During recent weeks, Pakistani authorities have protested cross-border incursions from the Afghanistan side in which Pakistani forces and citizens suffered human losses. The ISPR said the meeting of this Military Border Working Group was proposed by the Pakistan Army.
“During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the situation was undertaken to ensure the sanctity of the International border. The Pakistan Army proposed three steps in this regard:
A) Establishing a single point of contact with all Afghan National Security Forces (including Afghan Border Police) through a hotline between Pakistan Army and Afghan National Army.
