LAHORE: The “fallout of WikiLeaks’ disclosures bringing notoriety to army and politicians including Nawaz Sharif”, and future strategy on the reformed GST bill being top agenda items, the PML-N leadership has summoned a crucial party meeting on December 6 in Islamabad.
Sources told Pakistan Today that the meeting intended to fine-tune the media campaign and lobbying for damage control after WikiLeaks revealed that Nawaz had assured US diplomats of his true friendship and proved himself pro-American.
The meeting would deliberate whether the PML-N would respond on the leaks about Army Chief General Ashfaq Kayani “not liking Nawaz Sharif” and the Saudis “feeling betrayed” after Nawaz Sharif’s reneged on 10-year deal to stay away from politics.
They said officially, the party had not declared discussions on WikiLeaks as the main agenda but PML-N senior leader Ahsan Iqbal, Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Khawaja Asif and Ishaq Dar were supposed to table solutions to counterbalance the present and future aftershocks of the WikiLeaks bombing.
According to a PML-N official, Nawaz would preside over the meeting that would be attended by all mainstream leaders. The meeting would also take stock of the progress regarding party reorganisation, volatile political situation, party’s role in flood-hit areas and the future line of action on the reformed GST bill in the National Assembly.
During the meeting, provincial party organisers would submit written reports about party reorganisation, workers’ feedback and intra-party elections.
