LARKANA: Sindh Local Bodies (LB) Minister Saeed Ghani on Sunday said that no officer in Sindh can work independently due to fear of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) actions.

“NAB has targeted Sindh and its actions are only visible in Sindh not in other provinces,” he said while talking to media in Garhi Khuda Bux where he went to offer his prayers at the Mazar of Bhutto leaders.

He said NAB is misusing its powers in Sindh it is arresting leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) only while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seems to have an immunity in this regard. He said no action is taken in Punjab, KP and Balochistan by NAB, adding that they have double standards against which his part has serious reservations against it.

Ghani said: “We do not have any objection if NAB works within its framework. I am of the view that NAB is misusing its powers in Sindh.”

He said that the issue of payment of monthly salaries to LB employees is not prevalent in entire Sindh but is restricted only to some districts, which would soon be resolved. He confessed that payment to retired employees and pension issues also exists for which they are constituting a committee to resolve them.

NO COMPROMISE ON 18TH AMENDMENT:

Saeed Ghani said that there will be no compromise on the 18th amendment. He reminded that PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had relinquished powers as the president, strengthening the parliament. Provincial autonomy was guaranteed by the 18th amendment and people of Gilgit-Baltistan were given their identity, he added.

He said that the thinking which had declared Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto a security risk is now targeting Asif Ali Zardari.

PPP had resisted anti-democratic forces in the past and still resisting these forces, Ghani said adding that vilification campaign against Asif Ali Zardari is the old tactics of anti-democratic forces but PPP will defeat them as it has done in the past.
