ISLAMABAD: In view of ‘precarious’ security situation, the government has imposed section 144 in district Bannu for 30 days ahead of Pakhtun Tahafuz Movement’s (PTM) public gathering scheduled to be held on October 28 in the district.

Under the restriction, any such activity would be considered a violation of the law enforced for the time.

The measure was taken to avoid any untoward incidents after which there would be a complete ban on public gatherings and processions in the district.

Bannu’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Asghar directed that this order would remain enforced for a period of 30 days with immediate effect unless withdrawn or modified earlier and any person contravening this order would be punished under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

“A number of Threat Alerts are being received regarding possibility of terrorist activity in and around Bannu, with the possibility of targeting public gatherings and government installations, as communicated by FATA Secretariat Common Threat Picture (CTP) dated October 2, 2018, October 20, 2018, and October 25, 2018 and by Home and Tribal Affairs Dept,” the order issued by the DC said.

The order reads, “Now, therefore, I Muhammad Ali Asghar, Deputy Commissioner, Bannu under the authority vested upon me u/s 144 Cr.P/C do hereby impose complete ban within the territorial jurisdiction of district Bannu.”

It was stated that there would be a complete ban on the use of tinted glasses on motor vehicles, playing vehicles on public roads without registration documents and storage, transportation and sale of firecrackers and all kinds of explosive material other than those licensed by the deputy commissioner on Form EL-07.

Moreover, the other reads that the public gatherings without a security clearance and security arrangements from district police and NOC from the district administration and aerial firing and display of weapons in public areas would not be allowed.

The deputy commissioner said that this order would remain enforced for a period of 30 days with immediate effect unless withdrawn or modified earlier.

“Any person contravening this order shall render himself or themselves, whatever the case may be, liable to punishment under section 188 PPC,” he warned.
