ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Communications was informed on Thursday that Multan-Sukkur Motorway contract was signed under the government-to-government framework.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Senator Hidayatullah was informed by Communications secretary that PPRA rules did not apply on projects being executed under grants or soft loans.
NHA chairman said that all miniseries were part of the joint working group and JCC, and no rules were violated in the award of Multan- Sukkur Motorway contract.
The committee was told that toll collected on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway up to Jamshoro was collected by FWO, while from next toll plaza to endpoint at 79th kilometre NHA was collecting the toll.
The committee was informed that on the first plaza Rs 230 toll was collected while on the second plaza Rs 30 was collected as toll. If the second toll is abolished it would cause Rs 900 million loss.
On this, the committee recommended that small vehicles should be exempted from toll from the second plaza. The NHA official agreed to exempt small vehicles from toll from November 1. About another matter of public importance on the expansion of NHA right of way on M-9 which Senator Maula Bux Chandio said had affected the big population, the panel decided that the NHA chairman and Senator Chandio would visit the area and prepare a report.
