A group of six “not-so-smart” robbers in Belgium have been termed “the dumbest robbers” after falling for a trick so simple that it will leave you in fits.

In an unsuccessful robbery attempt, the armed men entered an e-cigarette shop on the outskirts of a Belgian city of Charleroi and asked the owner to empty the register and give them all the money.

According to Oddity Central, “It was the middle of the afternoon and the salesman told the crooks that he had barely sold anything and that if they really wanted to make some money, they should come around closing time.”

Any smart robber would avoid going to the same place again, however, these guys did and as the shop owner identified as Didier narrated, “I told them clearly that 3 PM is not the best time to hold up a store, you’ll take 1,000 bucks, but if you come back tonight you might be able to take more.”

He told them that if they followed his advice they might be able to walk with 2,000 to 3,000 euros.

“There was some pushing and shoving,” Didier told the BBC. “I didn’t give them a thing, but said if they came back later I would have 2 or 3,000 euros.”

Following this, the six men left the shop and the owner immediately informed the police of what had happened, but the police didn’t think the men would fall for the trick.

Didier told local media that at 5:30 PM, the men showed up at his door, again, but the police hadn’t arrived yet, so he had no choice but to send them away again.

“I berated them saying ‘you have to buy a watch.’ I said, ‘it’s 5:30, not 6:30,’ and they left,” he told RTL.

“They weren’t the brightest,” he added.

At 6:30 PM the men showed up once again to collect the promised loot, only this time, policemen in plain-clothes were waiting for them.

Five people were arrested, including a minor, while the sixth offender managed to escape. They now risk spending several years in prison.

“It’s like it was a comedy,” Didier said. “They’re being called the worst robbers in Belgium.”
