Azad Kashmir marks 71st Founding Day

MIRPUR: A special ceremony in connection with the 71st founding anniversary of Azad (free) government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir was held here Wednesday at the Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) Supreme Court building.

The ceremony was marked with the hoisting of the national flag of AJK. Chief Justice of AJK Supreme Court Justice Ch Muhammad Ibrahim Zia hoisted the national flag to mark the 71st anniversary of Azad government of the state of Jammu and Kashmir which came into existence on this day in 1947.

Senior Judge of the Supreme Court of AJK Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, Judge AJK High Court Justice Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, retired judges of the superior judiciary of AJK Justice (Retd) Muhammad Taj, Justice (Retd) Jehandad Khan, Justice (Retd) Ch. Muhammad Munir, Mirpur Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Tayyeb Chaudhry, DIG Police Mirpur Div. Muhammad Yaseen Qureshi, President Supreme Court Bar Association Raja Inam Ullah Khan, President District Bar Association Ch Abdul Aziz Pothi, officials of the superior and subordinate judiciary and the district administration, members of the legal fraternity and representatives of diverse segments of the civil society attended the simple but impressive ceremony.

A well-dressed contingent of AJK police presented a salute to the AJK flag.

Another major ceremony in this district was held at Municipal Corporation Mirpur where Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Tayyeb hoisted the national flags of Pakistan and AJK. A most impressive band by local school children presented the national anthems of Pakistan and AJK through the beautiful lyrics.

On the occasion, divisional commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Adnan Khursheed, Mirpur AJKCCI President Sohail Shujah Mujahid and others recalled that the Kashmiris were continuing their indigenous and historic struggle for freedom in the occupied state of Jammu and Kashmir for the liberation of the homeland from the prolonged Indian subjugation.

The speakers urged upon the world community to help the people of the India-held part of the state seeking liberation from the Indian clutches and give them an opportunity to decide their future in line with the UN resolutions on Kashmir. They also highlighted the chapters of the history which make the state of Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of Pakistan through historical, geographical, religious territorial and all other natural links. They called upon United Nations to fulfill its due obligations and global promise without any further delay paving a way for the early solution of the long-standing dispute of Kashmir in an amicable way through the result oriented composite dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Through various other similar ceremonies held in different parts of Mirpur division including Kotli and Bhimbher districts speakers apprised the world that the people of Jammu & Kashmir at either side of the Line of control and rest of the world will continue their ongoing struggle for freedom till such time that the atrocities being committed on the innocent Kashmiris by the Indian occupation forces are brought to a permanent end.

Earlier, the day dawned with special prayers for the early liberation of India-held Kashmir, speedy progress and prosperity if Azad Jammu Kashmir and for the stability, progress and prosperity of Pakistan, the ultimate destination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who had linked their destiny with it, the day they initiated their voice against the India-backed Dogra regime several decades ago.
