‘Osama’s family won’t be moved without commission’s consent’

The first meeting of the Inquiry Commission on Abbottabad Operation on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Interior and the ISI to ensure that Osama’s family was not repatriated from Pakistan without the consent of the commission.
The commission, which held its maiden meeting at the Cabinet Division, said those who were interested in appearing before the commission would be legally protected.
The individuals would be invited through the media to provide information to the commission by July 31 and would be notified by the commission about the date, time and venue for recording the statement, a statement issued after the meeting said.
During the meeting, the commission chalked out the modalities for its working and decided that its proceedings would be independent and in camera, where required.
Commission’s president Justice Javed Iqbal chaired the meeting that was attended by former IG Abbas Khan, former diplomat Ashraf Jehangir Qazi and Lt Gen (r) Nadeem Ahmed and Secretary Narigs Sethi.
The commission has been tasked with ascertaining full facts regarding the presence of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan for such a long time. The commission’s next meeting will take place on Monday.
A source said the Military Operations director general would likely brief the commission during in the next meeting.
