ISLAMABAD: Taking suo motu notice of a multi-million dollar scam in the rental power plants (RPPs) project, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry on Friday issued notice to the NEPRA chairman to appear and refute with documentary proof the corruption allegations.
The CJP also issued notices to the proprietors and owners of the Central Power Generation Co Ltd through NEPRA to appear and submit a reply. Notices were also served on WAPDA and PEPCO.
The CJP, however, decided to take up the issue for hearing before commencement of the arguments of the main case, directing all parties to remain in attendance on that day.
The CJP took the suo motu notice after a news report highlighted alleged irregularities in advance payment to Naudero-II and Guddu Projects. The report said NEPRA declined to approve tariff for Naudero-II after discovering that projects equipment belonged to Guddu RPP.
It pinpointed alleged violation of laws and irregularities running into millions of dollars in advance payments to Naudero-II and Guddu rental power projects.
