Special squad to curb street crimes: CCPO

A special squad is being formulated to combat street crimes, under which policemen on motorcycles will patrol various small streets of the city on a continuous basis, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir said on Tuesday. He was talking to citizens from various walks of life, who called on him at the CCPO Office.
The CCPO said that policemen of these squads would also be deputed in plain clothes at different markets and other sensitive places, for which a comprehensive plan is being chalked out. Patrolling on horses for specified areas and markets will also continue to keep a watchful eye on anti-social elements.
Tahir said that the role of police in maintenance of law and order is of prime significance but this role could become even more effective, if its command is in hands of good policemen.The CCPO said that every policeman has been directed to get maximum information about his concerned areas so that they could adopt a suitable strategy for maintenance of law and order. He said that every officer of the Lahore Police should always be detriment to meet the challenges of combating crime.
Tahir informed citizens that special vigilance teams are also being established with close cooperation of notables of the area, which will oversee the performance of police at the police station level. The CCPO told citizens that a number of practical steps, along with a comprehensive monitoring system, are being introduced to increase efficiency and effectiveness of police.
He pointed out that efficiency of a policeman becomes manifold, if he performs his duties without any vested interest or greed. Tahir noted that even today such policemen are present whose honesty and forthrightness is above any doubt, as they perform their duties as a sacred mission.
