Pakistani politics is like our very own soap opera played out on the national stage with the same intrigues and anti-climactic fallouts. The recent politicking bonanza which we were treated to is the best example of that. The opposition running around from pillar to post and yet not coming up with anything concrete is what we’ve come to expect from Pakistani politics: a lot of noise but no headway.
Both MQM and PML(N) couldn’t live up to their billing and there uncompromisable stands will leave them clutching at straws. They have a chance to form a potent alliance which could be instrumental in keeping the government on its toes but it doesn’t seem like it. This makes one wonder whether all this politicking has a larger purpose to it or is merely the pursuit of power. After all, great stakes warrant great games.
