KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday gave the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) a deadline of October 25 to submit its reply in a petition against top leaders of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) for holding iqama (work permits).
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard petitions seeking disqualifications of Suhail Anwar Siyal, Faryal Talpur and Manzoor Wassan among others for holding work permits of certain countries and not disclosing them in their nomination papers.
Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) law officer Abdullah Hunjra submitted his reply in court regarding the matter, however, it was incomplete.
The petitioner’s counsel, Shamsul Islam, said that they are ready to register a case against Faryal Talpur and Suhail Siyal.
The bench expressed disappointment at the ECP for submitting an incomplete reply regarding Suhail Anwar Siyal’s work permit.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that ECP officials do not reply properly on purpose. “We have seen their reply and it says nothing,” he said.
“We had sought a detailed reply and they submitted a one-page reply just for formality,” he further remarked.
Shamsul Islam while reminding the court that Faryal Talpur, sister of Asif Ali Zardari, had not disclosed her iqama and assets in Dubai, prayed to the court that any public office should be withdrawn from her until the verdict is announced.
The petitioner said that Talpur had established a company in the name of her daughter Aisha n 2002 in Dubai but concealed the matter by not mentioning it in her nomination papers.
He further stated that Faryal Talpur, Suhail Anwar Siyal and others were no more sadiq and ameen as they had submitted fake affidavits.
He said that Talpur had also hidden the details of transferring money to Dubai and a case should be registered against her after disqualifying her from Sindh Assembly’s membership.
He appealed to the court that Nasir Hussain Shah, Manzoor Wassan, Suhail Anwar Siyal, Sardar Chandio should also be declared as disqualified.
However, Sindh Assembly member Suhail Anwar Siyal also submitting his reply in the court said that the allegations levelled by the petitioner are false and that he had submitted all tax documents to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as well as, sharing all details in his income tax returns.
The court adjourned the hearing till October 25.
