Hearing an application filed by Amina Masood Janjua, wife of Masood Janjua who is missing since 2007, the Supreme Court on Monday summoned the interior and defence secretaries on Wednesday.
A two-member Supreme Court bench of Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan directed both secretaries to appear before Justice Javed Iqbal in his chamber on Wednesday and explain their position on the whereabouts of Masood Janjua.
During the hearing, Justice Javed Iqbal told Amina that both secretaries would be heard in her presence.
She reiterated that her spouse and another missing person, Faisal Faraz, were in the custody of intelligence agencies.
On June 29, Additional Attorney General KK Agha had informed the Supreme Court that Masood had been killed by al Qaeda. “A retired major-general of the Pakistan Army who was then the Inter-Services Intelligence director general had stated under oath before the commission of inquiry on missing people that he had received information from a source that Masood and Faisal Faraz had been killed by members of al Qaeda because they thought both were double-crossing them,” Agha had said.
But Amina, who also campaigns for the release of missing people, said she did not believe the government.
She had refused to accept the claim insisting that her husband, according to her knowledge, was alive but in custody at some safe house or special premises.
Justice Iqbal had assured her that the matter would be looked into and offered to send a court bailiff for the recovery of her husband provided she had authentic information on his whereabouts.
