LAHORE: Four people, including a woman, passed away while six are in critical condition after consuming poisonous food from a factory canteen in the Manga Mandi area on Thursday.
According to reports, the workers fell unconscious after consuming the food and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. It was reported that the incident took place as the workers were served food cooked under an unhygienic condition.
Meanwhile, factory workers boycotted work and started a protest against the factory’s management. They claimed that they are given contaminated water for drinking while food served to them was also substandard.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident and directed an investigation into the deaths of workers. The chief minister has sought report form labour secretary as well as the administration. The chief minister has directed to initiate legal action after identification of the responsible persons. He has also directed to provide the best healthcare facilities to the affected labours.
