A policeman, identified as Constable Waseem Saiful Maluk was arrested for firing a bullet that hit and killed a seven-year-old girl within her school premises a few days ago.
On September 28, the minor girl, Aqsa, was hit by a stray bullet fired from an unknown location on the shoulder.
Initially, the injured girl was taken to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital in Karachi but was later moved to the National Institute of Child Health, where she died on September 30.
Following the incident, on the complaint of the victim’s father the police registered a murder case against unknown persons and initiated a probe.
During the probe, it was found that the bullet was fired from a house close to the school.
Karachi police chief Dr Ameer Ahmed Sheikh had taken it as “a test case” as he had directed all stakeholders to determine as to why incidents involving stray bullets had become rampant.
