Inquiry commission on missing persons disposes-off 3,555 cases

ISLAMABAD: The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, Islamabad has disposed off 3,555 cases out of 5,423 cases up to September 30 this year.

A total of 5,349 cases were received up to August 31, 2018  to the Commission. Around 74 more cases were also received  during September 2018 and now total number of such cases is 5423. The Commission during month of September this year disposed of 36 cases and now total balance numbers of cases are 1868.

The Commission, Headed by Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal has conducted 356 hearings, 265 hearings in Islamabad, and 91 in Karachi during September 2018.

The efforts of President of the Commission, Javed Iqbal and other members have been appreciated as 3,555 missing persons were recovered up to September 30, besides ensuring their safe return to homes.

As President of the Commission, Justice Javed Iqbal not only gives personal hearing to each family of missing persons but also tries his utmost for earliest recovery of missing persons. The relatives of missing persons have also acknowledged the remarkable efforts of Justice Javed.

Justice Javed Iqbal has not been using government resources while pursuing mission of recovering missing persons. He does not receive any salary while working as President of the Commission.

He, being President of Abbottabad Inquiry had returned Rs. 6.1 million to the government and did not take a single penny for conducting a probe.
