Zardari’s ‘bizzare’ gift to the Camerons

President Asif Ali Zardari had given British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife a bizarre painting of themselves with their baby daughter Florence, British newspaper Daily Mail reported on Sunday.
The newspaper said the painting was taken from photographs of the couple as they presented their newborn to the world last August. Zardari is in London on a visit to discuss enhancing UK-Pakistan partnership in trade and investment. The Mail said the most powerful leaders in the world had a bit of a track record when it came to presenting tacky offerings.
When former British prime minister Gordon Brown visited the White House, he was given a selection of Hollywood DVDs as a gift by US President Barack Obama. Brown was looking forward to seeing iconic movies like Citizen Kane and Psycho, but he found they could only be played in North America, said the newspaper, and he did not keep the trendy bomber jacket that came with them either.
Obama made up for that social gaffe by presenting Cameron and his wife with an exclusive painting on his state visit to Britain and toys for their children, it said, but President Zardari did not appear to have understood quite how the etiquette works. The newspaper quoted critics as saying something similar could be knocked out with the help of a computer within a day.
