Mysterious disease kills 7 in Lower Dir

LOWER DIR: A mysterious endemic disease has spread in Bremki, a mountainous area of Lower Dir, killing seven people.

An emergency has been declared in the area and the health department has sent medical teams to the affected areas for controlling the disease. The blood samples of more than 300 people were taken and sent to laboratories to ascertain the disease.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sarmad Saleem Akram and District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Shaukat visited the area, while special wards at the Chakdara Hospital and a dispensary in the village have been established on the emergency basis where doctors will provide round the clock services.

“This mysterious disease has also taken dozens of lives in past few years,” say locals.

While the health department said they could not diagnose any other disease except the four cases of Malaria in the area.

“Most patients get stuck-off in different complexities until accessing the hospitals, therefore awareness campaigns as well as timely treatment are necessary to be made ensure,” the health experts said.
