Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reacted to the Indian army chief’s “bellicose and irresponsible statement”, saying it only exposed Indian designs to the world that should immediately take note of New Delhi’s threatening posture.
In a tweet, the former Punjab chief minister said that Pakistan’s proposal of peace should never be misconstrued as a weakness. “The bellicose & irresponsible statement by the Indian army chief exposes the Indian designs to the world that should immediately take note of New Delhi’s threatening posture. Pakistan extending an olive branch to India should never be misconstrued as a weakness,” he wrote.
Shehbaz further said that Pakistan’s unwavering patriotic soldiers stood steadfast to defend unprovoked aggression while the nation stood united with their intrepid military and against the cowardly threats.
Earlier in the day, Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat threatened to launch an action against Pakistan. “India will have to respond to Pakistan in their own language without resorting to barbarism,” he said while speaking to media persons.
New Delhi on Friday also called off a meeting between the Pakistani and Indian foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), just a day after confirming the development.
