SC seeks reports on unauthorised diversion of floodwater

ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench directed the provinces on Wednesday to submit their reports in the case of unauthorised diversion of floodwater.
The bench of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur-Rehman Ramday was hearing a suo motu notice on the issue and the CJ said that legal action would be taken against respondents and provinces who had not filed their reports on the issue.
PML-Q Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Marvi Memon told the court that the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and ministries of Finance and Irrigation had not filed their reports. Punjab Advocate General Khawaja Haris submitted in court that the province was preparing the report and it would be brought to court soon.
The Sindh Advocate General told the court that the report had been prepared but it could not made public yet. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Additional Advocate General told the court that there was no such complaint in the province, but the CJ rejected his stance and observed that the province must submit the report.
The court directed all the remaining respondents to file their reports by Friday and adjourned further hearing till December 9.
