LAHORE: Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan on Tuesday said that the outgoing government of Punjab ran affairs of all departments on an “ad-hoc” basis.

Chairing a high-level meeting here, Aleem said that during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government’s tenure, billions of rupees were poured in futile attempts of ending load shedding and several projects had been started only on papers.

The senior minister told the participants of the meeting that due to his personal efforts, the closure of Bhikkhi Power Plant was not possible and his intervention assured continuity of the plant to produce electricity.

He also asked the officers of the Energy Department to prepare recommendations keeping in view the ground realities to ensure continuity of the existing projects on a permanent basis and resolve the looming power crises.

Separately, Aleem also presided over meetings of Health, Education, Industries, Tourism and Women Development Departments, in which ministers and secretaries were present and the government’s 100-days plan was discussed.

Speaking at the occasion, he said that prompt and economical provision of basic facilities of life to everyone should be ensured and for this, every department would have to do their homework.

“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government has inherited a number of chronic issues that are acting as hurdles in running affairs of the province; however, we will soon be evolving the strategy to overcome the situation and bring practical changes to the lives of the people,” said Aleem while also directing the officers to take remedial measures and provide maximum relief to the common man.

Earlier, Punjab Minister for Finance Hasham Jawaan Bakhat and Irrigation Minister Mohsin Leghari called on Aleem Khan at his office and exchanged views on the 100-days plan as well as the performance of their respective departments.
