KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday said that all steps will be taken to ensure the eight-year-old victim of electrocution, Umar, is provided with the best possible care.
The chief minister stated this while speaking at a cabinet meeting. The CM said that Umar, who had his arms amputated after a live wire fell on him, would undergo treatment abroad.
Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh said several rounds of talks had been held between K-Electric management and the boy’s kin. He said the electric power supply company had agreed to shell out Rs2.5 million for the boy’s treatment. The sum had later been raised toRs5 million on the CM directives.
Umar was critically injured after a high-tension wire fell on his left arm in Ahsanabad, a town adjacent to Gulshan-e-Maymar, in August. The boy promptly used his other hand to remove the wire.
According to the child’s family, Umar was rushed to the burns centre at Karachi Civil Hospital where he underwent an hours-long surgery. While doctors were successful in saving the boy’s life, both his arms had to be amputated.
