LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar were moved back to Adiala Jail after their five-day parole to attend Kasoom Nawaz’s funeral in Lahore ended at 4pm on Monday.

The three were flown to Rawalpindi on a special flight from Lahore’s old airport.

According to reports, Hamza Shehbaz, Salman Shehbaz and Yousuf Abbas accompanied them to the airport in Lahore. However, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif was given special permission to accompany his convicted brother on the flight.

The three individuals are currently serving their sentences in the Avenfield apartments reference in Adiala jail.

Before leaving for the airport, the trio visited the graves of Kulsoom, her father-in-law Mian Sharif and brother-in-law Abbas Sharif and offered fateha.

Begum Kulsoom had undergone several surgeries and chemotherapy treatment at a private hospital in London after being diagnosed with lymphoma in August 2017. She suffered a heart attack in mid-June and was put on a life-support machine. In the first week of August, her condition improved and she was taken off from the ventilator. However, her condition deteriorated again on Sept 9 and she breathed her last on Sept 11.

Her sons Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz along with their uncle Shehbaz Sharif and other party leaders offered her funeral prayers in London before her body was shifted to Lahore. After her second funeral, which was attended by her husband, daughter and other relatives besides workers and leaders of various political parties, she was laid to rest near the graves of her father-in-law and brother-in-law at Jati Umra on Sept 14.

PML-N leader Tanveer Hussain denied reports that the three had requested an extension in their parole.

Last week, Shehbaz Sharif said that Nawaz and Maryam had refused to sign the parole application.

Speaking to media representatives in London, he said that after the incarcerated Sharif family members refused to sign the parole application, he did it himself.
