LAHORE: Candidates submitted their nomination papers on Saturday for the Senate by-election.
11 candidates are contesting for the seat vacated by Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shehzad Waseem expressed confidence that his party will gain the seat.
“I decided to submit papers on the directions of the party,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokar’s name has been recommended by PTI leader Dr Yasmir Rashid who also visited the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) provincial office.
Hamid Khan, Noman Qaiser, Umar Sarfaraz and Aijaz Chaudhry are the other members of the PTI who submitted their nomination papers.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to choose the party’s final candidate.
On the other hand, Khawaja Ahmed Salman, Hafiz Mian Noman, Saud Majeed and Mehr Ishtiaq submitted their nomination papers on behalf of the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N).
Provincial Election Commissioner Zafar Iqbal is evaluating the nomination papers.
