SHC reprimands police over ‘inefficacy’ in recovering missing children

• Bench expresses lack of confidence in investigation team, says probe extremely slow

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday criticized local police department for inefficacy in the recovery of missing children after it was told only one out of 23 children have been recovered.

As the court heard petitions filed for the recovery of missing children, the deputy inspector general for crime branch appeared before a two-member bench and said that a team was constituted on orders of Sindh Inspector General Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam, following which one girl was rescued.

The judges expressed anger, remarking, “the investigation process is extremely slow”.

The court also expressed a lack of confidence in the team formulated by the Sindh IGP, observing that a new team should be formed.

Furthermore, the court ordered that the deputy inspector general (DIG) police should appear in court till all the missing children are found and also issued orders for the appearance of the Sindh IGP in the next hearing.

Earlier on August 17, SHC had directed the Sindh IG to form a committee for the recovery of missing children as early as possible.
