Senior anchor Sana Bucha, who hosted a primetime news talk show, has resigned from Public News over an editorial dispute.
The anchorperson confirmed on her Twitter account, saying, “Another one bites the dust.”
According to details, the channel reportedly intervened in the editorial content of her show ‘Sana Bucha Live’ which caused a disagreement between the parties. “There is no compromise I’m ever going to make on my editorial position. Never have. Never will,” she added.
The row erupted during her show on September 12 in which she discussed the political struggle of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz and her sad demise, reports said.
She thanked everyone who participated in her show as a guest.
In her earlier tweet, she had expressed disappointment over the lack of empathy shown by some people at Kulsoom’s death. She said, “Disgusting. People will just not show any empathy at someone’s death. We will forgive murderers, set sectarian killers free and dictators will flee the country and still remain commandos. Speaks volumes for the state of this nation. And it’s people.”
It is worth noting that the freedom of press in the country has been deteriorating, even as overall violence against and murders of journalists decline, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said regarding its recent report.
The report added that journalists and editors across the country have resorted to self-censorship due to a “widespread sense of intimidation”.
