Court resumes hearing of assets reference against Dar

ISLAMABAD: Accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir on Wednesday resumed hearing of corruption case against former finance minister and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ishaq Dar that pertains to accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

During the hearing, three other accused, named in the supplementary reference, were also produced before the court, while employees of a private bank were presented as prosecution’s witnesses.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against the former finance minister after the Supreme Court judgement in the Panama Papers case on July 28 , 2017.  Dar had left the country on the pretext of his ailing health and hasn’t returned since. Following his repeated absences, the court had declared him an absconder.

Moreover, the top court had ordered the authorities concerned to bring back Dar using legal course and his diplomatic passport has been cancelled in this regard. Also, the Ministry of Interior had also blacklisted the former finance minister on National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request, the AGP had told the top court during a hearing.
