After completion of general election in Azad Kashmir, political activities have been stepped up for the formation of a new government and the selection of the top slots in the state, according to a private TV channel on Friday.
The channel reported that the name of Sardar Attique Ahmed, the incumbent prime minister of Azad Kashmir, is floated as the new president of the state. It is reported that efforts are underway to form a coalition government of the Pakistan People’s Party and the Muslim Conference in Azad Kashmir.
Prime Minister Attique will be elevated to the office of the president under the proposal. Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain playing a pivotal role in the formation of the new setup in the state, sources said. Recently, former Azad Kashmir prime minister Sultan Mehmood had met Shujaat to discuss the latest situation in the region.
Addressing a press conference in Kashmir House, Prime Minister Attique has said that the recently-held general election for the Legislative Assembly was the ever blackest (polls) in the history of the state. The PPP would not be able to digest these elections, he said, adding Nawaz Sharif had come to Azad Kashmir to divide the Muslim Conference.
“He (Nawaz) should return winners (Legislative Assembly members) of my party rather than making announcement for the construction of motorway,” he said, and pointed out that Kashmiris were disappointed over these elections due to outside involvement.
Attique also said that involvement of non-Kashmiri political parties in the state affairs would leave negative impact on Kashmir issue. To a question, he said that he had presented four-point formula to sort out Kashmir issue during recent OIC conference and it was acknowledged by the 57-member organisation.
He proposed that the OIC should set up Pakistan-India-Kashmir joint development fund. The state prime minister strongly condemned the statement given by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about Kashmir and appealed to Pakistan government and political parties to voice protest against this statement.
