SFA bans carbonated drinks, snacks at educational institutes

In a recent attempt to make the province healthier and safer, the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) on Thursday imposed a ban on certain food items, including carbonated drinks and snacks/chips at canteens across schools and colleges of the province.

A notification putting the restriction in this regard was issued by the SFA director general.

The authority further mandated the producers of tea whiteners to clearly mention on the packing that the product is not milk as per the instructions of the Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).

Further, one-year ultimatum was given until the sale of loose spices and calcium carbide as fruits ripening source have to be banned in the province.

Sodium Hydro Sulphite and Sodium Hydrochloride were banned for purpose of bleaching sweets. Open oil and ghee were also banned according to the order.
