SSP’s wife accuses him of theft, ‘disappears’ after registering FIR

LAHORE: Even though a case of robbery was registered against SSP Junaid Arshad of Police Services of Pakistan (PSP) on his wife’s complaint, the Chuhang Police has so far failed to find any evidence to prove the charges, Pakistan Today has learnt.

According to sources, the officers probing the matter have not found any clues to trace back the theft to the police official. The investigation officer has also said that the plaintiff, despite being summoned multiple times, has disappeared and is avoiding her husband.

“The complainant, Ayesha Subhani, lodged a case against her husband following differences with him. She arrived at the police station to register the case but was told that one of theft cannot be filed against a husband,” sources said, adding that it was then she declared Junaid as her former husband and accused him of stealing jewelry worth 20 tolas.

Police sources said that following this, the Station House Officer (SHO) concerned and the then Sadar SP, Rizwan Gondal, carried out a preliminary investigation during which the SSP informed them that he had not divorced Ayesha. They also said that the application was then discarded; however, the complainant reached out to a former CCPO, who ordered Gondal to register a case against SSP Junaid.

This scribe was informed that Ayesha Subhani, two months after registration of the case, filed for khula in a civil court, which was finalised in April.

Speaking to Pakistan Today, Investigation ASI Ashraf said that he too wasn’t sure how to deal with the situation. “The accused is on bail before arrest while Ayesha Subhani is not appearing before the probing team,” he said, adding that any progress could only be made after listening to both the parties.
