CM imposes water emergency in Quetta

Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) imposed water emergency in Quetta in wake of the potable water crisis.

Chief Minister also directed Public Health and Engineering Department (PHE) and Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) to address the issue on war footings.

Chairing a session on water scarcity in Quetta, CM said that he was aware of the problems faced by the citizens. He wanted to resolve those issues at the earliest by making use of resources of the concerned departments.

While briefing the session, WASA Managing Director (MD) Wali Muhammad Bareech said that Quetta has a population of 2.3 million whose water needs amount to 61 million gallons per day. However, only 34.8 million gallons of water is being which does not meet the population’s requirements.

He told the session that as many as 406 tube-wells of WASA and 160 tube-wells of PHE were installed in Quetta while in case of availability of funds 10 tube-wells will be installed in Dasht and 30 new tube-wells installed as Sariab Package would also be linked with the system.

Provincial Minister PHE Noor Muhammad Dummer, Provincial Minister for Information Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Chief Secretary Balochistan Dr Akhtar Nazeer and representatives of relevant departments were present during the session.

It was decided that new projects will be put up for approval in the next session of the cabinet.
