–LDA spokesperson assures action against officials involved in illegal issuance of approved residential maps to commercial buildings

LAHORE: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is facing a loss worth hundreds of millions of rupees owing to the construction of illegal commercial buildings amid the inability of the Town Planning branch officials to enforce building by-laws and maps approved by the authority, Pakistan Today has learnt.

According to sources, corruption of millions of rupees is prevailing in LDA’s Town Planning branch where officials are distributing residential completion certificates to commercial buildings including marriage halls. “Commercial buildings have also been constructed on roads where there is a ban on business goings-on due to the collusion of town planning officers regarding the issuance of residential maps and completion certificates,” they said.

Within a span of four years, residential completion certificates and approved maps have been issued to commercial buildings in Sabzazar, Johar Town, Jubilee Town, Raiwind, Allama Iqbal Town, WAPDA Town, Canal Bank Road areas and several private housing schemes of the provincial capital, sources added.

Speaking to Pakistan Today, LDA spokesperson said that a departmental action would be taken against the officials found involved in the illegal issuance of approved maps. “All the illegally constructed buildings will also be demolished by the authority,” assured the spokesperson.
