A man on Wednesday accused the doctors and management of a private hospital of killing his father because of negligence in treatment of a simple vomiting. Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, Syed Asim Hassan Naqvi said his father Syed Hassan Imam Naqvi vomited on May 1 and was rushed to Hameed Latif Hospital around 9 pm where he was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Asim alleged that there was no senior doctor on duty but the hospital administration admitted his father and prepared a file with Dr Rashid Iqbal’s name. He said despite repeated calls, Rashid never came to the hospital. Hence, after two hours, a junior doctor namely Dr Shiraz alias Sherry came, checked his father and prescribed several medical tests. He also gave him 36 to 40 injections in around six hours, Asim added. He said his father was not suffering from any serious disease and all the test reports taken in the hospital proved positive.
Asim said his father remained in pain as he ran here and there for a doctor but there was no doctor available and his father died at 3am. “If there was no doctor present, why did the administration admit my father and that too with the name of Dr Rashid Iqbal who was absent that day?” he questioned. He said he went to Garden Town Police Station to register a first information report against the negligence of hospital administration and Dr Rashid Iqbal, but to no avail as the police refused to register a case. Asim said that he was being threatened by Provincial Assembly members and other influential people against taking legal action against the doctor or the hospital administration and was being advised to settle the issue out of court. He appealed to the Lahore High Court chief justice and Punjab chief minister to look into the matter and provide justice to his family.
