Soldier martyred, three injured in North Waziristan IED blast

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: One soldier was martyred and three others sustained injuries on Thursday when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded targeting an army bomb disposal squad’s vehicle in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “the team was on a routine search and clear operation as part of the ongoing Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad.”

The deceased was identified as Havildar Ahmed Khan, 38 who belonged to Mianwali district. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad was launched in February 2017 after a sharp uptick in terrorist attacks in the country.

Earlier, on Wednesday, at least five people were killed and seven injured during an exchange of fire in Mardan.

It was reported that Ghalib Khan and his relative Nausher opened fire on each other that killed five people on the spot.
